FUN FACTS ABOUT THE GALLBLADDER!

We’ve heard of ‘The Gallbladder’, but does anyone actually know what it is?!?!

These are common! They’re small, stone-like deposits that are made up of cholesterol, bile pigments and calcium salts. They range in size, from a grain of salt to tiny pebbles. It is common for these to show no symptoms, and be picked up in a non-related CT scan or check up.

Who is at risk?

If you asked a med school student, they’d tell you ‘THE 5 F’S’; fat, forty, fertile, female and far-skinned.


Its important to understand, that if you have gallstones you probably have an unhealthy liver producing poor-quality bile as well as the gallbladder not functioning properly. Ask your doctor for more advice on this!


There are two main typed of gallstones: cholesterol stones, and pigment stones. Gallstones made from bile pigment are usually smaller but more.


So, what are the symptons?

Usually on the right side under the rib cage, radiating around to the back or right shoulder. Pain often occurs after a heavy meal. Many people have nausea, vomiting, excessive bloating and burping.


How do I treat my gallbladder through diet?

A low fat diet including a range of clean foods. Lemons, celery and dandelion are great for liver and gallbladder health. Try include alkalising foods (anything green really!). Raw, unfiltered apple juice and apple cider vinegar!

Be active and try walk three times a week.
